How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1Log into your Hertz account or open the reservation link from the confirmation email
- 2Select the reservation and choose the “Cancel” option, or call the Reservations Center
- 3Confirm the cancellation and note the cancellation reference number provided
- 4Allow the processing period (5‑10 business days) and verify the credit on the original payment method
When You Can Get a Refund
- Cancellation must be submitted through the Hertz website, Reservations Center phone line, or written notice before the scheduled pickup time
- For prepaid rates, cancellation must occur within the free‑cancellation period (24 hours of booking) to avoid any fee
- If the reservation is not cancelled before the pickup window, a no‑show or cancellation fee may be charged, reducing the refund amount
All Refund Methods
- Refund to the original credit or debit card used for the reservation
- Loyalty points returned to the member’s account for reservations paid with points
Partial Refunds
- When cancellation occurs after the free‑cancellation window, Hertz refunds the prepaid amount less any applicable liquidated damages or cancellation fees
- Refunds are not issued for unused fuel; only the prepaid rental charge is refunded
