How to Cancel — Step by Step
- 1Visit your home club (the specific location where you signed up) with a photo ID
- 2Request cancellation at the front desk
- 3Fill out a cancellation form
- 4Ask for written confirmation/receipt — keep this as proof
- 5Alternative: send a formal cancellation letter via USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt Requested to your home club address (not corporate)
- 6Letter must include: full name, address, membership ID, home club name/address, desired cancellation date, explicit request to cancel
- 7Certified letter must be received at least 7 business days before the next billing date
Billed Through a Third Party?
- Some locations now allow online cancellation through planetfitness.com, but this is NOT available at all locations
- Online availability expanding due to FTC 'Click to Cancel' rule (effective January 2026) and state laws
- Cannot cancel by phone or email at most locations
Reactivating Your Account
- Can rejoin at any Planet Fitness location at any time
- Previous membership history may not carry over — treated as a new signup
- May be subject to a new enrollment fee and annual fee schedule
Additional Notes
- $39 annual fee applies to both Classic and Black Card members — charged approximately 3 months after signup
- To avoid annual fee: cancel at least 7 business days before the scheduled fee date
- Once charged, the annual fee is non-refundable in most cases
- Must cancel at your home club — other locations or corporate will not process it
- Black Card members can use any PF location but must still cancel at their home club
- Transfer option: must be a member for at least 90 days, no outstanding balances, monthly members only

You cant do it in every state, but in California you absolutely can. It takes a second to change your home gym and then you can immediately cancel right there in their website.
