How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1To cancel a Getaways by Southwest reservation, you can do so online or by calling Getaways by Southwest™.
- 2Ensure the cancellation is made at least 10 minutes before the original scheduled departure of your first flight to avoid forfeiture.
- 3For non-air refunds (e.g., hotel, car rental) where receipts need to be submitted, expand the “Need More Assistance” section on the refund policy page.
- 4Click “Email us” to access the contact portal and fill in your contact information and confirmation number.
- 5Briefly describe your refund request and upload a photo or scanned copy of your receipts within 90 days of your scheduled return date.
When You Can Get a Refund
- The reservation must be canceled at least 10 minutes prior to the first flight's original scheduled departure to avoid the no-show policy.
- Non-refundable optional travel charges and travel insurance are typically forfeited upon cancellation.
- Supplier penalties may apply if a reservation is canceled less than 72 hours before the first flight.
- For non-air components (like hotels), the specific hotel's cancellation and refund policies should be reviewed, as they can vary.
- Refunds to the original form of payment for non-refundable fares are considered under specific circumstances, including purchasing an extra seat as a Customer of size or with a disability, military orders, death of an immediate family member/travel companion/Passenger, or Southwest-initiated flight cancellation/significant schedule revision/significant flight delay.
All Refund Methods
- Refund to original form(s) of payment.
- Vacation Travel Credits (VTCs), which are issued for eligible residual amounts and voluntary cancellations more than 72 hours before the first flight.
Partial Refunds
- Partial refunds are possible if a Getaways Booking is modified, resulting in a lower price, with eligible residual amounts issued as Vacation Travel Credits (VTCs) (less any optional travel charges, travel insurance, and Travel Supplier penalties).
- Non-refundable optional travel charges are typically not eligible for a refund.
- If a flight is significantly disrupted by Southwest, unused airfare and optional travel charges may be refunded to the original form of payment, while non-air funds may be issued as VTCs or a refund depending on whether the disruption was within Southwest's control.
Additional Notes
- 'Getaways by Southwest' encompasses vacation bookings that include hotel components, and its refund policy applies to these bookings.
- Vacation Travel Credits (VTCs) have specified expiration dates, and all travel must be completed by that date.
