How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1To cancel a reservation, do so online via sixt.com/service or through your 'manage booking' section.
- 2For early returns, inform Sixt upfront of your changed plans via sixt.com/service, by contacting customer service at +1 888 749 8227, or in person at any branch to amend your rental contract.
- 3For a PayPal Dispute Resolution regarding a reservation before pick-up, open a dispute through the PayPal website.
- 4Security deposits are automatically processed for release by Sixt within 24 business hours after the vehicle is returned.
- 5For questions or concerns about invoices or post-return charges, customers can contact the Customer Support Team by submitting a request.
When You Can Get a Refund
- Cancellations of 'Stay Flexible' (Pay at Pickup) bookings can be made free of charge anytime before the scheduled pickup.
- Cancellations of 'Best Price' (Pay Now/Prepaid) bookings made within 24 hours of booking are free, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.
- Cancellations of 'Best Price' (Pay Now/Prepaid) bookings made more than 24 hours prior to scheduled pick-up incur a $100 cancellation fee (excluding tax); the remaining prepaid amount exceeding $100 will be refunded.
- Cancellations of 'Best Price' (Pay Now/Prepaid) bookings made within 24 hours prior to scheduled pick-up incur a $200 cancellation fee (excluding tax); the remaining prepaid amount exceeding $200 will be refunded.
- The cancellation fee for prepaid bookings will never exceed the total prepaid amount.
- No refund will be issued for cancellations made after the scheduled pick-up time or in case of a no-show.
- For prepaid bookings with a rental period of no more than three days, the total prepaid amount is non-refundable.
- For prepaid bookings with a rental period lasting more than three days, the first three days are non-refundable, and the remaining days will be refunded.
- For prepaid bookings ('Pay Now' / 'Best Price' rate option), a refund is generally not issued for early returns.
- For other rate options, if the vehicle is returned before the contracted return date, a partial discount for the unused rental days may be credited, up to 50% of the price difference with a maximum amount of USD 200.00.
- For SIXT+ car subscriptions, an early return before the end of a 30-day billing period does not lead to a proportional calculation of the respective time period; the monthly rate is calculated for a full 30-day period.

- Yes, for prepaid cancellations after applicable cancellation fees have been applied.

- Yes, for prepaid bookings longer than three days, the days beyond the initial non-refundable three days are eligible for a refund.
Dispute Process
- If a PayPal Dispute Resolution is opened before the specified pick-up time, the reservation will be cancelled, and the amount will be credited to the customer's PayPal account.
- Sixt reserves the right to charge a fee (in accordance with Prepaid Reservation Policies) if the PayPal Dispute is unjustified or abusively filed, unless the renter proves Sixt incurred no or significantly less expense or damage.
- A dispute decided in favor of the customer does not exclude Sixt's right to assert its claims for payment of the rental price and damages by other means than those provided by PayPal.
Additional Notes
- If a reservation was made through a third party, customers should contact that third party directly for their policy on changes or cancellations.
- Refunds are processed to the original payment method used for the booking.
- Virtual credit or debit cards, prepaid cards, checks, or cash are not accepted as valid payment methods for rentals.
- Chime cards are only accepted as a payment method at the end of the rental, once the vehicle is returned.

I only used my Bunq business credit card for a rental van this year. Sixt told me they made the refund for the security deposit but it never arrived on the card. All Bunq can do is to reply to the chat to ask for more and more time. At this point I just feel scammed by Bunq, never experienced a serv
