How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1For a standard return, first contact the merchant to initiate the refund process according to their policy.
- 2The merchant will then reverse the transaction.
- 3The refund will be posted to your SoFi checking account after a 5 business day settlement period.
- 4If you need to dispute a charge, log in to your SoFi account on sofi.com.
- 5Navigate to your 'Transactions' and select the transaction you want to dispute.
- 6Click on 'Report an issue' and follow the prompts to describe the problem and submit your dispute.
When You Can Get a Refund
- To be eligible for a refund for a returned item, you must follow the merchant's return policy.
- To file a dispute online, the transaction must be posted (not pending).
- You can dispute five or fewer transactions online.
- Online disputes are for transactions within the last 92 calendar days.
Dispute Process
- You can file a dispute online for unauthorized transactions.
- If you report a debit card transaction as fraudulent, SoFi will deactivate the card and number to prevent further fraudulent activity and issue a new card.
- For issues that cannot be resolved online, you can chat with a SoFi agent for assistance.
- If you suspect an unauthorized transaction, you should contact SoFi immediately.
Additional Notes
- For delayed refunds, it is recommended to first contact the merchant, and then SoFi if the issue is not resolved.
- Your financial institution cannot issue an immediate refund; they must wait for the merchant to initiate it.
- If you report a transaction as fraudulent, ensure your mailing address on your SoFi profile is current as a new card will be mailed to you.

Chargeback with SoFi credit card
Hey, quick question about what I should do with a chargeback that SoFi has not resolved in a timely manner? For context, I filed a chargeback on March 19 on a purchase on my SoFi debit card.
