How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1To request a refund online, log in to the 'My bookings' section on the Lufthansa website using your surname and booking code.
- 2Bookings eligible for cancellation will have a 'Cancellation' button. Click this button and confirm your selection.
- 3After confirming, the flight booking will be cancelled, and you will receive an automatic confirmation email.
- 4For tickets purchased on lufthansa.com or at a Lufthansa office, the refund is processed automatically.
- 5If the ticket was booked through a travel agency, you must contact them to process the refund.
When You Can Get a Refund
- The possibility of a refund and the amount depends on the fare conditions of the purchased ticket.
- Some tickets are wholly non-refundable or may require a service fee to be deducted from the refund amount.
- If Lufthansa cancels a flight, a full refund including all taxes and fees will be issued for unused tickets. For partially used tickets, the unused portion will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.
- A complete refund is also possible for significant schedule changes, such as a departure time moved forward by more than an hour or delayed by at least two hours, or an arrival delay of at least two hours.
All Refund Methods
- Online via the 'My bookings' section of the Lufthansa website.
- Through the Lufthansa Chat Assistant.
- By mail for tickets that could not be used due to illness or death of the traveler or an immediate family member.
- Contacting the travel agency directly if the ticket was purchased through them.
Additional Notes
- If you purchased your ticket from a travel agency (including online agencies), you must contact the agent directly to review and process any refund.
- For tickets purchased directly from Lufthansa that could not be used due to illness or death, a request with supporting documentation must be mailed to the Lufthansa German Airlines Ticketing Refunds department in Uniondale, NY.
- Reimbursement requests for Denied Boarding Compensation (DBC) vouchers must also be submitted by mail.
