How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1Check your confirmation email, credit card statement, or booking details to identify the airline, hotel, car rental company, or agency that charged you.
- 2Review that provider's cancellation terms before making any changes.
- 3Contact the provider directly to cancel the booking or request a refund, because KAYAK cannot do that on your behalf.
- 4Keep the provider's confirmation and monitor your original payment method for the refund.
- 5If you still cannot identify the supplier, use the clues KAYAK lists such as your card statement, browser history, hotel confirmation, or airline record.
When You Can Get a Refund
- KAYAK is a search engine and does not have its own refund policy.
- The company that charged your card or bank account is responsible for any refund.
- The cancellation and refund rules that apply are the supplier terms shown at booking.
- Some reservations are non-refundable or non-changeable even when they were found on KAYAK.
Partial Refunds
- Any partial refund depends entirely on the travel provider's fare, rate, and cancellation rules.
Dispute Process
- If you file a chargeback related to a reservation, KAYAK says it can cancel that reservation.
- Chargebacks for non-refundable reservations, charges you authorized, or services delivered as described may be investigated and challenged by the supplier.
Additional Notes
- KAYAK does not fulfill the trip and does not charge your payment method for most bookings.
- The responsible party may be an airline, online travel agency, hotel, car rental company, or another travel supplier.
- If you were redirected off-site to book, all refund handling stays with that off-site provider.
