How to Get a Refund — Step by Step

  1. 1If you booked directly with Icelandair, fill out the online 'Request a refund' form.
  2. 2If your booking was made through a third party (e.g., an online travel agency), you must contact them directly to request a refund.
  3. 3For claims under the Cancellation Protection plan, you must notify Icelandair, gather the required documentation (like a medical certificate or police report), and submit your claim.

When You Can Get a Refund

  • Refund eligibility is dependent on the fare type purchased; for example, Economy Light fares are non-refundable, while Economy Flex fares are refundable.
  • Bookings made through a third party, such as an online travel agency or travel agent, must be canceled and refunded through that third party.
  • The 24-hour cancellation policy for a full refund is applicable only to bookings made one week or more before the scheduled flight departure.
  • For non-refundable tickets, only unused government and/or airport taxes may be refundable.
  • If you purchased optional Cancellation Protection, a refund may be granted for specific reasons like sudden illness, accident, or death of a close family member, and requires documentation such as a medical certificate or death certificate.

Partial Refunds

  • If a portion of a ticket has been used, the refund will be no less than the difference between the fare paid and the applicable fare for the travel that occurred.
  • For non-refundable fare types like Economy Light and Economy Standard, only the unused government and/or airport taxes are refundable.
  • For a partly used Economy Flex ticket, the flown portion is recalculated and the residual value will be refunded.

Additional Notes

  • For customers in the USA who book directly with Icelandair, the airline allows cancellation of a ticketed reservation without penalty for a full refund if the cancellation is made within 24 hours of purchase and the reservation is for a flight at least one week away.
  • Refund rules are specific to the fare type booked.
  • If your booking includes a package or tour, you must contact the Icelandair Holidays team to cancel or make changes.
  • The optional Cancellation Protection service is not an insurance policy and can only be purchased during or within 36 hours of the initial booking.

Icelandair changed my layover to 17 hours without notifying me. Am I entitled to a refund, even on a non-refundable flight?

My flights are DEN - KEF KEV - ARN ARN - FCO Everything was booked directly through Icelandair, but the last flight (ARN-FCO) is a Scandinavian Airlines flight. The layover between ARN - FCO was originally 2 hours and 50 minutes. However, this morning I went to check in to the flights and noticed it

Icelandair cancelled my flight. Will I be able to get my money back?

As the title says, my flight was due the 13th and is now cancelled. I bought my tickets directly from Icelandair and they were the “non-refundable” economy class tickets. They sent me some mail about a voucher but I just want my money back. Anyone know if that’s possible? And how to do it? All I see

Flight on Icelandair was delayed, received compensation due to EU laws - CapitalOne deducted 2x mileage for refund

Kind of a weird situation - I paid for the flight in full - my flight was delayed for more than 24 hours, so I was able to get paid for that, due to EU laws. I had Icelandair put it on my VentureX. I just noticed that Capital One then deducted 2x points for this "refund" - but it's not really a refu

Our tickets through icelandair are listed as non refundable but I wanted to see if anyone knew if they wi
