Return Conditions

  • Item is significantly not as described in the listing.
  • Item was damaged during shipping.
  • Item is inauthentic/counterfeit.
  • Returned items must be unworn, unwashed, unmodified and have all original tags attached.
  • Buyer must drop off the item with the designated carrier using the Mercari-provided return label within 72 hours of receipt of the label.

Refund Methods

  • Full refund for eligible returns.
  • Refund will be processed to the original form of payment.
  • Refunds for transactions paid with Mercari balance or credit are typically returned to your account as Mercari balance or credit.
  • If paid with Zip, Zip will refund payments made to date and cancel future payments.

Exceptions & Restrictions

  • Returns or refunds are not permitted after a transaction has been completed (after the buyer or Mercari rates the transaction).
  • If a buyer has rated the item or does not contact Mercari to request a return within 72 hours of receipt of an item, a return will not be permitted and a refund will not be issued.
  • Cosmetic imperfections or minor blemishes—including, but not limited to, minor scratches or dents on packaging—that do not affect item's functionality, are typically not grounds for a return or refund.
  • The item doesn't fit.
  • The item smells (prior to purchase, buyers should ask sellers if the item has been cleaned, and/or comes from a smoke-free or pet-free environment).
  • The buyer changed their mind.
  • Delayed shipping due to carrier or weather.
  • Plants, cuttings.
  • Sealed or wrapped items from the original manufacturer cannot be returned if unsealed or unwrapped, unless the item is defective, damaged, or not authentic.
  • Rejected packages or items returned to sender without Mercari's authorization are not covered under this policy.

Online / Mail Returns

  • Return requests must be initiated through the Help Center in the Mercari app or website, specifically through the Order Status page or Rating page before the transaction is completed.
  • If a claim is approved, Mercari will provide a free, pre-paid return label.
  • Buyer must drop off the item with the designated carrier using the Mercari-provided return label within 72 hours of receipt of the label.
  • Buyers must submit all requested information and photos within 24 hours of Mercari's request.
  • Buyers should photograph the item after it has been repacked for return shipping, both before and after taping the box.

Damaged or Defective Items

  • Returns are allowed if the item was damaged during shipment.
  • Sellers must contact Mercari within 24 hours of receipt of a returned item (based on the carrier's timestamp) if it was damaged in transit during the return.
  • Sellers can report damage through the Order Status page or Help Center and must submit all requested information and photos within 24 hours of Mercari's request.
  • Mercari will review the request and may take appropriate action, including not refunding the buyer.

Additional Notes

  • A Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% is applied to the item price and buyer-paid shipping, which may not be refunded depending on the reason for a return.
  • Mercari holds your payment until your item is delivered and you rate the order, confirming the item is as described.
  • If the buyer does not rate the order within 72 hours of carrier-confirmed delivery time, the transaction will complete automatically and the funds will be released to the Seller.
  • Mercari reserves the right to refuse return requests and deny refunds, including in cases of fraudulent conduct, insufficient care when packaging a return, or if the item has been modified after receipt.
