How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1For wrong or unsatisfactory drinks/food: tell the barista at the store and they will remake it or provide an alternative item at no charge.
- 2For mobile order issues: open the Starbucks app, go to Order History, and cancel the order within 30 minutes if it has not started preparation.
- 3For merchandise returns: bring the item with the original receipt to any participating Starbucks location within 60 days.
- 4For delivery order issues: open the third-party delivery app (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.), find your order, and report the issue through their support.
- 5For other issues: call Starbucks customer service at 1-800-782-7282 (available 5 AM–8 PM PT, 7 days a week).
- 6Alternatively, use Starbucks live chat support (available 4 AM–10 PM PT, 7 days a week) or email info@starbucks.com.
When You Can Get a Refund
- Food and drink purchases are not formally refundable, but baristas will replace or remake any drink or food item you are unsatisfied with for free.
- Packaged merchandise (coffee bags, tea, tumblers, mugs) can be returned within 60 days of purchase with the original receipt.
- Merchandise must be unused and in original condition for a full refund.
- Mobile orders can be canceled within 30 minutes via the Starbucks app under Order History, but cancellation may not be available if the order is already being prepared.
- Orders placed through third-party delivery apps (Uber Eats, DoorDash) must be refunded through that delivery service, not Starbucks directly.
- Starbucks Card balance refunds are handled as store credit, not cash.
All Refund Methods
- Cash/credit card purchases: refunded to original payment method
- Starbucks Card/PayPal purchases: refunded as Starbucks Store Credit (physical card, cannot be loaded to app)
- Mobile order cancellations: refunded to original payment method
- Drink/food replacements: free remake at the store, no formal refund required
Partial Refunds
- If part of a multi-item mobile order is incorrect, Starbucks may credit the value of the incorrect items rather than refund the entire order.
- Gift card balance refunds are subject to state law — some states require cash back for balances under a certain amount (typically $5–$10).
- Starbucks Rewards Stars earned from a purchase are kept even after a return.
Dispute Process
- Contact Starbucks customer service at 1-800-782-7282 for unresolved issues.
- Alternative phone numbers: (877) 421-9062 or (800) 952-5210.
- Use the Starbucks app or website Help Center to submit a written complaint.
- For delivery orders, disputes must be filed through the third-party delivery platform (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.).
- If Starbucks does not resolve the issue, file a chargeback with your credit card company.
Additional Notes
- Baristas are generally very accommodating about remaking drinks — do not hesitate to ask if something is wrong with your order.
- Starbucks Store Credit is issued on a physical card that says 'Store Credit' on the front — it cannot be loaded onto the Starbucks app or a regular Starbucks Card.
- Mobile Order & Pay refunds go back to the original payment method used in the app.
- There is no formal published refund policy for food and beverages — the standard practice is replacement, not cash refund.
- Starbucks Delivers orders placed directly through the Starbucks app use delivery partners but refund issues should go through Starbucks customer service.
- Keep your receipt — it is required for all merchandise returns and greatly speeds up any refund process.

Why I now ask for a refund every time Starbucks messes up my $9 drink
I used to let it slide when Starbucks would mess up a drink. No sugar-free syrup, wrong milk, forget the espresso shot... whatever. I’d just drink it and move on. But now? That same drink that used to cost $5.41 is pushing nine bucks. And somehow the quality has gotten worse. The last time I ordered
