How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1Open Your Rentals, select the booking, and choose Cancel the rental.
- 2Review the automatically calculated fee or refund shown at cancellation.
- 3If you believe the cancellation qualifies for a full refund exception, submit a refund request within 24 hours after cancellation and attach evidence.
- 4Monitor Your Payments and your bank statement for the refund or released deposit.
When You Can Get a Refund
- Standard rentals canceled at least 48 hours before start receive a full refund.
- Standard rentals canceled less than 48 hours before start receive half of the payment back.
- Standard rentals canceled after the rental was supposed to start are non-refundable.
- Campervan, motorhome, and RV rentals have longer windows: 14 or more days for full refund, 7 to 14 days for half refund, and less than 7 days for no refund.
- If the owner or the car caused the cancellation, Getaround says the driver is fully refunded.
All Refund Methods
- Original payment method
- Original card used for the booking
- Released security deposit
Dispute Process
- Getaround says contested cancellations can temporarily pause the rental-fee refund while the team reviews the case.
- Refund requests after cancellation must be submitted within 24 hours to suspend payout to the owner.
Additional Notes
- Getaround says fraud-related cancellations are not eligible for refunds.
- If the payment had not been captured yet, your bank may simply remove the authorization hold instead of showing a posted refund.
