How to Get a Refund — Step by Step

  1. 1To refund a payment directly in the app or on cash.app: Go to the Activity tab, Select the payment you’d like to refund, Choose Refund, Press Confirm.
  2. 2For Cash App Pay refunds, customers must request a refund from the merchant directly.
  3. 3To receive the refund the Cash App account of the Customer must not be deactivated.
  4. 4For Merchants, a step-by-step guide about refunding an order is available in the Help section of the Merchant portal.

When You Can Get a Refund

  • Refunds must not have an amount greater than the captured amount on the original payment.
  • Refunds are linked to a previously captured Cash App Pay Payment.
  • Customers seeking a Cash App Pay refund must request it directly from the merchant.
  • Transaction fees will not be returned to the Payment Service Provider (PSP) in the event of a refund.
  • Refunds may be declined if the customer's Cash App account is deactivated.
  • Refunds may be declined if the merchant is deactivated or their onboarding has not yet completed.
  • Refunds may be declined for compliance reasons, including violation of Cash App Terms of Service, Program Rules, or applicable laws.
  • Refunds may be declined if the requested amount is too high (above maximum refund size) or too low (below $0.01 USD).

Additional Notes

  • Cash App Pay transactions originating from the stored balance in the app will be refunded to the customer’s Cash App account balance.
  • Cash App Pay transactions originating from a linked debit card or bank account will be refunded to the original card or bank account.
  • Refunds for Stored Value Balance (SVB) are immediate.
  • Once a refund is confirmed, funds will be returned to the sender’s Cash App balance or linked bank account.
