How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1Log in to your AliExpress account and navigate to 'My Orders'.
- 2Find the order with the issue and click 'Open Dispute'.
- 3Choose your dispute type: 'Refund Only' (no return required) or 'Return Goods' (return item for refund).
- 4Provide a detailed description of the problem — be specific and honest.
- 5Upload photo and/or video evidence (unboxing videos, product condition, comparison with listing).
- 6Specify your desired resolution: full refund or partial refund amount.
- 7Wait for the seller to respond — they have up to 15 days to reply or counter-offer.
- 8If the seller does not respond or you cannot reach agreement, AliExpress's dispute team intervenes and makes a final decision within 7 days.
When You Can Get a Refund
- Item never delivered after the guaranteed delivery window has passed.
- Item is significantly different from the listing description (wrong item, fake, wrong color/size, material mismatch).
- Item arrived damaged, broken, or non-functional.
- Only one dispute can be opened per order — choose your resolution type carefully.
- Disputes can be opened from 11 days after shipping if the item has not arrived.
- Refund requests can be submitted up to 15 days after order completion.
- For low-value items under $5, partial refunds without return may be offered automatically.
- Digital product refunds are only issued if the product was never delivered digitally.
All Refund Methods
- Credit/debit card: refunded to the original card in 3–20 business days after approval
- PayPal: refunded to original PayPal account in 3–20 business days
- AliPay: refunded as AliPay balance, typically within 3–5 business days
- Bank transfer: refunded to original account, processing time varies by bank (up to 20 business days)
Partial Refunds
- Minor flaws or cosmetic issues often qualify for partial refunds negotiated directly with the seller without returning the item.
- If the item is usable but not as described, AliExpress may approve a 50–80% partial refund.
- Items under $5 with issues may receive automatic partial refunds without requiring a return.
- Shipping costs are typically not refunded for partial refund resolutions unless the item is completely unusable.
- Sellers may propose partial refund counter-offers during the dispute process — you can accept or reject these.
Dispute Process
- Stage 1: Direct negotiation between buyer and seller for up to 15 days.
- Stage 2: If no agreement is reached, click 'Escalate Dispute' to involve the AliExpress resolution team.
- The AliExpress team reviews all evidence and typically makes a decision within 7 days of escalation.
- If AliExpress does not resolve the issue satisfactorily, file a dispute with your payment provider (PayPal, credit card company) as a last resort.
- Missing evidence (photos, tracking numbers, unboxing videos) significantly weakens your case — always document thoroughly.
Additional Notes
- AliExpress Buyer Protection automatically enrolls every buyer and covers over 200 countries and 150 million buyers.
- Never click 'Confirm Receipt' until you have inspected the item — confirming receipt limits your dispute options.
- Unboxing videos are strongly recommended for high-value items, as they provide the strongest evidence in disputes.
- Sellers may offer to resolve issues outside the platform — always keep communication on AliExpress to maintain buyer protection.
- Free returns are available on select items marked with the 'Free Return' badge.
- Enhanced mediation is now available for fake tracking number scams under 2026 policy updates.
- Shipping times from China typically range from 15–45 days — wait for the delivery guarantee to expire before opening a non-receipt dispute.
