How to Get a Refund — Step by Step
- 1Log in to your Avis account or open the Avis mobile app and locate the reservation you wish to cancel
- 2Select the option to cancel the reservation and confirm the cancellation request
- 3The system will display the applicable cancellation fee ($50 ≥ 24 hrs before pick‑up, $150 < 24 hrs) and process the refund to the original payment method
- 4Allow up to seven business days for the credit to appear on your card statement; check for multiple transaction entries if applicable
When You Can Get a Refund
- Reservation must be prepaid at the time of booking
- Cancellation must be completed online via the Avis website or mobile app
- Applicable cancellation fee ($50 or $150) is deducted before the refund is issued
- No refund for no‑show or for returning the vehicle early after the rental period has started
All Refund Methods
- Credit returned to the original payment card used for the prepaid reservation
- Refund may be posted in multiple transactions depending on the card issuer’s processing policies
Partial Refunds
- If you cancel less than 24 hours before pick‑up, you receive a partial refund equal to the prepaid amount minus a $150 processing fee
- Early returns after the rental has begun do not generate any refund, resulting in a full charge for the original rental period
Dispute Process
- Contact Avis Customer Service at 1‑800‑352‑7900 or via the online help portal to request a review of the charge
- Provide your reservation number and details of the dispute; Avis will investigate and may issue a corrected refund if an error is found
Additional Notes
- If your flight is cancelled, provide the airline and flight number in the reservation to have the $150 fee waived
- Refunds may appear as several smaller credits on your statement, depending on how the card issuer processes the transaction
