How to Cancel — Step by Step
- 1Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub.com.
- 2Click 'Settings' from the dropdown menu.
- 3In the 'Access' section of the sidebar, click 'Billing & licensing' and then 'Licensing' (new platform) — or 'Plans and usage' on the original platform.
- 4In the 'GitHub Copilot' section, select the 'Manage subscription' dropdown on the right.
- 5Click 'Cancel subscription.'
- 6Select 'Cancel Copilot Pro+' or 'Cancel Copilot Pro' to confirm — your plan ends at the conclusion of your current billing cycle.
- 7You will automatically be downgraded to Copilot Free (2,000 completions + 50 chat requests/month) at the end of the cycle.
Billed Through a Third Party?
- If your Copilot access is provided through a GitHub Organization or Enterprise, you cannot cancel individually — contact your organization admin to have your seat removed.
- GitHub Student Developer Pack includes Copilot Pro for free while you are a verified student — canceling the pack may remove Copilot access.
- If you upgraded from a student plan to a paid plan, you need to cancel the paid subscription separately through GitHub Settings.
Reactivating Your Account
- You can resubscribe to any Copilot paid plan at any time from GitHub Settings → Copilot.
- Your Copilot settings, IDE configurations, and custom instructions are preserved after cancellation.
- Copilot Free provides basic functionality (2,000 completions, 50 chat requests/month) so you retain some AI assistance after downgrading.

- Copilot Pro: $10/month or $100/year — unlimited completions, unlimited chat, advanced models, and Copilot Edits.

- Copilot Business: $19/user/month — for organizations with centralized management and policy controls.
- Copilot Enterprise: $39/user/month — adds knowledge bases, fine-tuned models, and enterprise security.
- The 30-day free trial is one-time only and applies to personal Pro or Pro+ subscriptions.
- If you downgrade from Pro+ to Pro instead of fully canceling, select 'Downgrade to Copilot Pro' from the Manage subscription dropdown.
