Return Conditions
- Returns are accepted upon receipt of the returned order.
- Items must not be damaged or defective (unless being returned due to defect).
- Proof of purchase is required for returns.
- Form of ID is required for returns.
Refund Methods
- Refunds are processed in the same method as the original payment (cash, credit, Smart & Final Charge Card, or Gift Card).
- Items purchased by check may be returned for a cash refund.
- Items without a receipt over $5.00 are refunded to a Smart & Final Gift Card.
Exceptions & Restrictions
- Perishable items are generally not accepted for return or exchange, unless delivered defective or spoiled.
- Seasonal merchandise, such as summertime items, must be returned prior to markdown or closeout.
- Holiday merchandise must be returned at least two days before the holiday.
- Merchandise cannot be defective as a result of abuse or misuse.
- Items without a receipt, where the value exceeds $5.00, will be credited to a Smart & Final Gift Card.
Online / Mail Returns
- Refunds are available for online orders that were late, over-charged, contained broken/spoiled items, or were missing.
- Online Support team can assist with processing refunds for online orders via chat or email.
- Digital receipts are available in the order history section of your account and via confirmation email.
In-Store Returns
- Non-perishable purchases can be returned or exchanged by visiting a Smart & Final store within 10 days of delivery or purchase.
- Proof of purchase and form of ID are required for in-store returns.
Damaged or Defective Items
- Perishable items delivered defective or spoiled can be returned or exchanged.
- Defective appliances can be exchanged within 14 days of purchase with an original Smart & Final receipt.
- Refunds are available for online orders containing broken/spoiled items.
Exchange Policy
- Non-perishable purchases can be exchanged within 10 days of delivery or purchase.
- Defective appliances can be exchanged within 14 days of purchase.
Additional Notes
- Customer satisfaction is important to Smart & Final.
- Restrictions or a check-clearing period may apply for items purchased by check.
