How to Cancel — Step by Step
- 1Go to nytimes.com and log in to your account.
- 2Click your profile icon or username in the top-right corner.
- 3Select 'Account' or 'Subscription Overview' from the dropdown menu.
- 4Click 'Cancel Subscription' under your active subscription details.
- 5The NYT will likely present retention offers and may redirect you to a live chat — decline offers firmly and request cancellation.
- 6Keep clicking through any additional retention screens until you see a final cancellation confirmation.
- 7Do NOT close the browser tab until you receive an on-screen confirmation that your cancellation has been processed.
- 8Check your email for a cancellation confirmation message from The New York Times.
Billed Through a Third Party?
- If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, cancel via iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → The New York Times → Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does NOT cancel your subscription.
- If you subscribed through Google Play, open Google Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → The New York Times → Cancel subscription.
- You cannot cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription through the NYT website or app — you must use the respective platform's subscription management.
- Print subscriptions cannot be cancelled online or via chat — you must call 1-800-591-9233.
Reactivating Your Account
- You can resubscribe at any time through nytimes.com — the NYT frequently offers promotional rates for returning subscribers.
- Your account, saved articles, and reading history are retained after cancellation.
- Crossword and Cooking progress is preserved even after cancellation if you had those add-on subscriptions.
Additional Notes
- Digital subscription plans: Basic Digital starts at around $4/month introductory (then $17/month); All Access Digital starts at $5/month introductory (then $25/month) and includes NYT Cooking, Games, Wirecutter, and The Athletic.
- Print + digital bundle subscriptions include free All Access Digital with home delivery.
- Customer service hours: Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–6 p.m. ET; weekends 7 a.m.–3 p.m. ET.
- Phone numbers: 1-800-698-4637 (general), 1-866-273-3612 (digital cancellation), 1-800-591-9233 (print cancellation).
- Tip: If the website makes it hard to cancel, calling and saying 'I have already decided to cancel and am not interested in any offers' firmly (repeat 2–3 times) usually gets the cancellation processed.
- The New York Times is known for aggressive retention tactics — be prepared for multiple offers and chatbot escalation before reaching final cancellation.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle; you keep full access until then.
- If you received a promotional introductory rate, cancelling before the promo period ends avoids the higher regular price kicking in.

If the NYTimes does not run an article on David Grusch or the hearing by tomorrow, I will cancel my 12-year subscription with the following explanation
I am cancelling my 12 year subscription to the New York Times due to what I perceive as a lack of journalistic integrity in its complete absence of coverage of David Grusch's whistleblower claims and the congressional hearing in which he testified. Irrespective of the factuality of Mr. Grusch's clai
