Cancellation Steps

BetterHelp

  • Log in to your BetterHelp account on the website or app.
  • Click the menu icon (☰) or your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  • Select 'My Account' from the dropdown menu.
  • Navigate to 'Payment Settings' in your account dashboard.
  • Click 'Change Plan / Quit Counseling' (or 'Quit Therapy' in the app).
  • Select 'Quit Counseling' and confirm the cancellation when prompted.
  • Optionally, go back to My Account → Personal Information and click 'Request Erasure' to delete your data.
  • Wait for a confirmation email from BetterHelp verifying your subscription has been cancelled.

Talkspace

  • Log in to your Talkspace account at talkspace.com or open the Talkspace app.
  • Click or tap your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Select 'Manage Subscription' from the menu.
  • Click 'Change Plan' to view subscription options.
  • Click 'Cancel Subscription' at the bottom of the plan options.
  • Answer the follow-up questions about your reason for canceling.
  • Click 'Submit' to confirm your cancellation — your account will be marked as 'do not renew'.
  • You will retain access to messaging and services until the end of your current billing period.

Third-Party Billing

BetterHelp

  • If you subscribed through the Apple App Store (iOS), you must cancel via iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → BetterHelp → Cancel Subscription. BetterHelp cannot cancel App Store subscriptions on their end.
  • If you subscribed through Google Play (Android), open Google Play Store → Profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → BetterHelp → Cancel subscription.
  • Third-party cancellations may take effect at the end of the current Apple or Google billing cycle, which may differ from BetterHelp's internal billing cycle.
  • After canceling through Apple or Google, you may still need to log in to BetterHelp and end your counseling relationship separately.

Talkspace

  • Apple App Store (Talkspace Go): Due to security restrictions, Apple blocks Talkspace from accessing your Apple account. Contact Apple Support directly for cancellation and refund requests for App Store purchases.
  • Google Play Store (Talkspace Go): Email help@getlasting.com with a copy of your purchase receipt or Google Play Order Number (begins with GPA) to request cancellation assistance or refunds.
  • Employer-sponsored (EAP) plans: If your employer provides Talkspace through an Employee Assistance Program, your access is managed by your employer — contact your HR department about plan changes.
  • Insurance-based plans: If you use Talkspace through insurance, cancellation stops future sessions but copay/coinsurance charges for completed sessions still apply per your insurance terms.

Reactivation & Data Retention

BetterHelp

  • You can reactivate your BetterHelp account at any time by logging back in and selecting a new plan.
  • Your previous therapist may or may not be available upon reactivation — you can request the same therapist or be matched with a new one.
  • Message history with previous therapists is deleted after the account is cancelled and data erasure is requested; if you did not request erasure, some data may be retained.
  • BetterHelp periodically sends re-engagement emails after cancellation with discount offers.

Talkspace
