Cancellation Steps
BetterHelp
- Log in to your BetterHelp account on the website or app.
- Click the menu icon (☰) or your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select 'My Account' from the dropdown menu.
- Navigate to 'Payment Settings' in your account dashboard.
- Click 'Change Plan / Quit Counseling' (or 'Quit Therapy' in the app).
- Select 'Quit Counseling' and confirm the cancellation when prompted.
- Optionally, go back to My Account → Personal Information and click 'Request Erasure' to delete your data.
- Wait for a confirmation email from BetterHelp verifying your subscription has been cancelled.
Talkspace
- Log in to your Talkspace account at talkspace.com or open the Talkspace app.
- Click or tap your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Select 'Manage Subscription' from the menu.
- Click 'Change Plan' to view subscription options.
- Click 'Cancel Subscription' at the bottom of the plan options.
- Answer the follow-up questions about your reason for canceling.
- Click 'Submit' to confirm your cancellation — your account will be marked as 'do not renew'.
- You will retain access to messaging and services until the end of your current billing period.

Third-Party Billing
BetterHelp
- If you subscribed through the Apple App Store (iOS), you must cancel via iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → BetterHelp → Cancel Subscription. BetterHelp cannot cancel App Store subscriptions on their end.
- If you subscribed through Google Play (Android), open Google Play Store → Profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → BetterHelp → Cancel subscription.
- Third-party cancellations may take effect at the end of the current Apple or Google billing cycle, which may differ from BetterHelp's internal billing cycle.
- After canceling through Apple or Google, you may still need to log in to BetterHelp and end your counseling relationship separately.
Talkspace
- Apple App Store (Talkspace Go): Due to security restrictions, Apple blocks Talkspace from accessing your Apple account. Contact Apple Support directly for cancellation and refund requests for App Store purchases.
- Google Play Store (Talkspace Go): Email help@getlasting.com with a copy of your purchase receipt or Google Play Order Number (begins with GPA) to request cancellation assistance or refunds.
- Employer-sponsored (EAP) plans: If your employer provides Talkspace through an Employee Assistance Program, your access is managed by your employer — contact your HR department about plan changes.
- Insurance-based plans: If you use Talkspace through insurance, cancellation stops future sessions but copay/coinsurance charges for completed sessions still apply per your insurance terms.
Reactivation & Data Retention
BetterHelp
- You can reactivate your BetterHelp account at any time by logging back in and selecting a new plan.
- Your previous therapist may or may not be available upon reactivation — you can request the same therapist or be matched with a new one.
- Message history with previous therapists is deleted after the account is cancelled and data erasure is requested; if you did not request erasure, some data may be retained.
- BetterHelp periodically sends re-engagement emails after cancellation with discount offers.
Talkspace
- You can reactivate your Talkspace subscription at any time by logging in and selecting a new plan.
- Your previous therapist may or may not be available upon reactivation — you may need to choose a new provider.
- Message history with previous therapists is preserved in your account for review.
- Talkspace retains your account data even after cancellation — you do not need to create a new account to resubscribe.
Additional Notes
BetterHelp
- BetterHelp costs between $65 and $100 per week (approximately $260–$400 per month), billed weekly or every four weeks depending on your plan.
- As of July 2025, BetterHelp rolled out weekly billing plans available in most of the United States.
- Financial assistance discounts of 10%–40% are available for those who qualify — apply through the sign-up questionnaire.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to messaging and sessions until then.
- There is no cancellation fee — BetterHelp is a month-to-month (or week-to-week) subscription with no long-term contract.
- To fully delete your account and personal data, use the 'Request Erasure' option under Personal Information after canceling.
- The FTC previously ordered BetterHelp to pay $7.8 million in refunds over data-sharing practices — check ftc.gov/enforcement/refunds/betterhelp-refunds if you were affected.

Talkspace
- Talkspace pricing: Messaging Therapy starts at $276/month ($69/week); Video + Messaging Therapy at $396/month ($99/week); Video + Messaging + Workshops at $436/month ($109/week). Couples therapy is $436/month.
- Psychiatry services are billed per session: initial evaluation $299, follow-up sessions $175 each.
- Quarterly and biannual billing options save an additional 10-20% compared to monthly billing.
- There are no contracts — you can cancel at any time without cancellation fees or penalties.
- Live session cancellations require at least 24 hours' notice; late cancellations and no-shows are non-refundable.
- If you are in crisis, Talkspace is not a substitute for emergency services — call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911 for immediate help.
