How to Cancel — Step by Step
- 1Log in to your Ancestry account.
- 2Go to your Account Settings.
- 3In the 'Membership' section, click on 'Cancel membership' or 'Cancel trial'.
- 4Follow the on-screen instructions until you receive a cancellation confirmation number.
Billed Through a Third Party?
- If you signed up through an Apple iOS or Apple TV app, you must cancel through Apple.
- If you signed up through a Google Play/Android app, you must cancel through Google Play.
- If you signed up through the Roku channel, you must cancel through Roku.
- If you signed up with Amazon, you must cancel through Amazon.
Reactivating Your Account
- You can restart an Ancestry membership at any time after cancellation.
Additional Notes
- Canceling your membership will not delete your trees, DNA, or Ancestry account. Your account will revert to a free registered guest account.
- Gift memberships do not automatically renew and therefore do not require cancellation.
- Except for gift memberships, all Ancestry memberships and trials automatically renew. To prevent future charges, you must turn off automatic renewal by following the cancellation steps.

Works like a charm 😃. I just called Ancestry to verify this was even possible. The current flash sale ends on July 4. My previous six-month subscription was due to end August 28, so they refunded me $36. Now I resubscribe for another 6 months for $59. Voila!

Corporate greed at its most egregious. DNA users already have paid a fee to have their DNA tested and access certain features without having to pay for an expensive subscription on top of that fee such as viewing shared matches. Years ago users were able to search and view genealogical records and o
